What is Search Engine Optimisation?

SEO is a continuous process of monitoring and improving a web site's performance in search engine page rankings. It is also about advising the client about the quality of a site's current traffic through a long term approach to methodological rankings improvements on a number of search terms.

The aim of optimisation is to find the best possible way to bring in organic search traffic from relevant search terms which potential customers may use to drive traffic to that site. This must be done without comprimising the business's key message to visitors, whilst ensuring that the site is easy to find when a key term is searched for.

A strong organic listing is one which appears just below the sponsored links - i.e. paid listings - on the results pages of the search engines - this is where we would all ideally like to be!

SEO work needs to be done both on the page element you see and on the many elements (mostly code) which you do not see, in order for your business' web site to rank well. The internet is quite possibly the world's most competitive market place today.

The average web user will rarely move past the first 20 listings before they change their search to improve the results they see. Many people will not so much as glance past the top five or six. This means that good rankings are vital for a sustaining an online business presence. SEO is about identifying search terms which your potential customers would be using, and then working hard to beat the competition to the top spots.

Can I optimise my own site?

Absolutely - the techniques used are no big secret! But it is time consuming, and requires a real committment to getting the job done in order to see results, which is where we come in. For many business owners, finding the time to work on their websites is very difficult, and often becomes low priority. For most, however, now is just the time when increased visibility is vital to survival, and eventually the ROI will be well worth it.

Does SEO actually exist? – to quote Google :

"Many SEO's and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for web site owners, from writing copy to giving advice on site architecture and helping to find relevant directories to which a site can be submitted.”

We don't think that SEO is dead - as reported by some - but is well and truly alive and even more important than ever in these challenging times.
